Leaf hoppers are relatives of the cicada and they're worse than the cicada.

Leaf hoppers lay eggs in the tissue of living plants. The larvae eat the soft tissue within the plants when they hatch. The adults suck on the juices of the tissues of the plants. And they don't have a long dormant cycle like cicadas do. They're hard to catch because they "hop" around the place and are very fast.

:(( Blasted leaf hoppers messed up some of my orchids growing outdoors by laying eggs inside the leaves. Luckily I caught them before they hatched. But the scars are still there.
