I thought I was doing everything right...What's wrong?!

I've never grown orchids before, and my boyfriend gave me an ocidium hybrid of some sort...It most resembles a jungle monarch.

Anyways, I've spent forever reading on how to take care of it, and it is still dying!

One by one, the leaves turn yellow (starting at the tips and working their way nearer to the center of the plant) and then finally browning and drying up. They are not old leaves...in fact, they are small and newer looking.

no brown speckles or anything like that. I know it isn't getting too much sun (it doesn't even get direct like) and I have been watering it minimally since I noticed the first yellow leaf.

I live in Arizona, so my bedroom is dry and a solid 85 degrees during the daylight hours (bad AC)...Someone PLEASE help me before its too late...

I think I have a black thumb :(

What type of light do you have it in? And how often are you watering? Do you have any pics you could show us all to help diagnose?

I suspect your humidity is very low and this may be the cause of you problem.

my camera is broken...but its pretty much as I described...they start getting a little lime green at the tips, and then they start turning yellow as it spreads towards the plant. As the yellow reaches about half way down the leaf, the tip starts to brown.

yes, my humidity is very low...i already have it sitting on a tray, but i don't think it does much good.

i water it every four days or so. my bedroom gets east/west exposure but the plant is on a desk where no direst light reaches it.

not enough humdity. maybe set it in an old aquarium and let the plant dry out between waterings

Might need more light also - how far from the window is it? All of my indoors orchids are on the window sills. Oncidium types should do well with a bit of morning or afternoon sun

Also I water mine here in the bay area more than once a week in summer, so in your very dry conditions it may need more water.
I have bamboo skewers in all my pots to help determine when to water :)
good luck and let us know how it goes :)
