Phal. rehab succesful!

Picture from 8 1/2 month ago:

September 15th. last year I potted this plant. In the medium it had lost all it's roots due to over watering. I got this plant from my Mom. I used some "aerial's" to anchor the plant. I kept it very dry during months!

The picture above was made about 2 months later. First signs of new root growth. The "aerial's" that I potted up started sprouting again.

This is what the same plant looks now. It is starting it's third leaf since March/April. This years second leaf is the largest on the plant. Yeah! This is what time and TLC can do!

Thanks to all!
I'm still amazed how manny roots it grew. BTW, most of them originated from the 'aerial' roots. Those 'aerial' roots are still OK.
Today it's a very strong plant, I hope it will bloom next fall. Can't wait to see the flowers, as I never saw them myself. I offered my parents to take the plant back home, but Mom bought 4 new Phal's in the past months and learned how to take care for them. Once out of bloom I'll repot them for her. She really enjoys her own plants but doesn't want this one back, which I don't regret as I love watching all these roots going crazy :)

A very good example of what good care and correct conditions can do. Nice work !!

Thank you Mike.

I grew this one in the livingroom. Conditions this winter were less than optimal. It was very cold here and I had difficulties heating my house. Count the short days we have here during the winter...hmmm.
This made watering a balancing act but with good results!

The more Phal's I grow, the more feeling I get with medium and watering. Currently I have this inner voice that tells me to repot this plant, despite the medium still looks OK but when I test the moisture with a skewer I notice the medium is more compacted than I started with and it holds the moisture in the middle of the pot longer than I like. The roots are pressing the bark to the middle of the pot.

I've been debating with myself to repot or not... and decided to follow my gut feeling I should repot it. I hope I can pop it back in the same pot without untangling the roots, just replace the bark.
I better can do it now, with so manny active root tips, than somewhere during the winter, but I hate to disturb the plant.

Very curious what the roots look like in the middle of the pot and how the "aerials" it all started with look like.

Nicole
