I just got this plant back in May when I was at the Redland Orchid Festival. My wife and I had stopped at one of the roadside stands and picked this beauty up for $25 in bloom. The original flowers lasted about a month then about 3 or 4 weeks ago I saw a new spike coming then 2 weeks ago I saw a second one on the way(/udb)

I had hoped to get a shot with both spikes but the rain got on the first set a couple of times and the flowers are paying for it

It's beautiful, and what a great buy. What is the name of the huge one hanging next to it? It looks like a monster ready to grab someone with those roots.

Wonderful, I love it. Wish I has space (and the sunshine) for Vandas like that.

The monster is my V. Roberts Delight from this thread:biggrin:

Have you thought about any Ascocentrum or Neofinetia they both stay small and would not cost much to light if the sun is not available?

Currently I have no facilities to light my plants and don't see that being possible in the near future. :(

I've been looking at some Ascocentrum that a UK website has growing in glass vases making them quite compact, just unsure if I could give then enough light without setting up something artificial.

I'm just about to place an order for the fourth orchid this month (the intermediate project plant) anyway. and I don't think I'll get any more past my hubby for a while. He's been really good about the fact I have bought so many this month (actually he bought two of them for me for our wedding aniversary:biggrin:).

Thanks neb. I have a Robert's Delight 'Garnet Beauty'. It thinks it is a foliage plant, no blooms since I bought it as a BS 4 years ago. My other Vandas hanging along side of her bloom. Should I threaten her, bloom or it is that green box in my garage? I have a couple of other Robert's Delight, 'Big Blue' and Red Black' which as still rather young plants.

I hope someone from a northern climate can help you find a plant that will thrive in your latitude. I know there are some people in Canada that grow Vandas I just don’t know if they have to use artificial light to do it. I don’t think that Ascocentrum need too much more light than a Phal. but I could be wrong.

I would try and cut down on the nitrogen in the early spring if you are using a high nitrogen fertilizer and then give it about as much sun as you can. This year I don't have a bloom on it but I do have many kiekies but, in the past I have given full sun and tons of water and gotten beautiful flowers. I guess that the one you have is just being picky and waiting till you give it just the right combination.
