This is a wierd genus. So I'm not sure which category it belongs in.

Hey catwalker, I really mean no harm in this question, but why so confrontational? I see a lot of your posts that prompt "experts" of "armchair.." to challenge your statements or prove you wrong. I'm just here to learn, not correct others' contributions. I know there are a few that feel like they have something to prove to their own egos, but that's not the majority here. We're not out to get you. Most of us are just fine with you posting whatever plant in whatever forum you like. :)

There are many things in life that I know little about, but I listen and try to learn. There are some things I really don't care about. And there are very few things I know a lot about.

Likewise there are more orchids that I DON'T know about than those that I do. Some I just happen to have extensive experience with. I know there are many readers who would like to know more than the name of a plant. This is a good site where many people contribute very interesting questions, background info, etc. I learn a lot. I would also like to actively contribute. It's almost a responsibility for people with certain experiences to share with those with less experience (in that particular area or with that particular plant) Even experienced growers have lots to learn. The more we learn, the more we realize how much we don't know.

Sometimes in expressing my opinion or commenting about a topic, my posts are long, in order to give background or to explain in greater depth. When you venture an opinion like that, or explain something in depth, you expose your underbelly to some nitpicking.

I don't really mind that. I welcome informed differing opinions. Some of my remarks were just attempts at humor through pre-emptory remarks for EXTREME nitpickers (All of US regular nitpickers are ok ... it's just the EXTREME NITPICKERS I was referring to). Don't worry, I'm not thin skinned.

I think it might be part of Cymbidieae. Its really fantastic though!! Either way, I love the shape and colours of her!!

However...

If you'd really like to know, Cyrtopodium is a Catasetinae. So in culture, they behave like a Catasetum. Dormant period the whole works. But they can also be terrestrial.

So, yeah they ARE wierd.

I could have sworn these guys were Oncidium types.... but OW has it in Cymbidium, Catasetum, etc. Anywho, where did you get this one Catwalker? Ive been looking for a 'cigar orchid' and I saw one of these in bloom at one of the shows this year here on Oahu (not sure what island you are on) and the guy who was showing it didn't have any bulbs for sale.

I looked it up, and yeah, they're Cymbidium to verify.
