Mountain Lady's Slipper

Not as spectacular as the pink or yellow slippers, but to my mind the most beautiful of them all is the Mountain lady's Slipper, Cypripedium montanum. These were photographed on a hillside near the town of Dunster, British Columbia.

Beautiful photo, Ron. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to see this one. For folks like me in Texas, this is the only way I get to enjoy them. :)

Texas has its own set of wild orchids many of which can be found in the Big Thicket. When we lived in Houston many years ago that was a great place to find them.

Beautiful contrast of colours. Nice picture composition too.

wow! what a perfectly fluffy little pouch!

I am anxiously awaiting ladyslipper season here in the Northeast. There's a wildflower bog near me I plan to visit in June. What a treat!

How many different ladyslippers are native to this continent?

Tindomul 04-15-2011 03:24 PM

What is the site location name? I really want to do some serious botanizing this summer.
My book of vascular plants of the Northeast show 6 species. Thats just for the Northeast. The rest of the continent probably has many more.

The bog is Eshqua Bog Natural Area, Hartland, VT — New England Wild Flower Society

it might make a nice weekend trip for you - visit that and Cady's Falls
