Baby treefrog season

2 Attachment(s)
I went outside this morning to water the orchids and noticed several baby treefrogs scrambling out of the bottom drainage holes of the larger pots and jumping up the legs of the iron plant stands. This would probably help to explain why I'm seeing far fewer spiders this year (normally my front porch is something of a wolf spider sanctuary during the summer). I usually avoid the word cute whenever possible, but in this case I think it might be applicable (to the frogs, not so much the wolf spiders). To give an idea of the size of the frogs, the black metal stand legs that they're pictured with are approximately one-fourth of an inch wide. Hopefully they'll all migrate to some trees or shrubs before I bring everything inside this fall. I would love to have frogs in the sunroom over the winter, but I think the frogs need to hibernate. Although this is a member of the genus Hyla, I'm not sure what species it is (possibly Hyla versicolor). And this is one more good reason not to use pesticides.

I just love these guys, and they more than earn their keep, too.

Everytime i find a tree frog my inner child compels me to take it home. Thankfully for the frogs the small part of me that is adult lets them go. I think they're adorable.

I have a small pot inside a larger one so I could use a sturdy hanger an I've got a tree frog living between the two pots. Cute as can be. He can clean up anybody that comes near my 'yellow bird'. Guess he's my "Watch Frog" I love nature!!

frogs seem to love life; as they seem to have a perpetual smile.
Narnia i also have the urge everytime i see a frog to bring them home.
i guess that,s still from the days of catching tadpoles and watching them grow up. great biology lesson.

Baffled by technology

It's baby tree frog season again, and there are dozens of these little guys, no bigger than a thumbnail, all over the place. During the day many of them camp out under the orchid pots and baskets. But at night they come out and hop across the sides of the house to hunt for moths and spiders. While I was out on the front porch during a rain storm last night, I watched this particular frog devour half a dozen jumping spiders before it came across one that it couldn't get to. The spider was maneuvering on a glass window pane behind a screen, and the frog simply sat there and watched the spider move about. This must have been a rather delicious looking spider, because the frog moved around repeatedly in an attempt to get at his prey. But there was just no overcoming the fact that an impassable piece of simple technology stood between him and dinner.
