The many faces of Vanda tricolor -UPDATE REBLOOM PAGE 2-
I recently purchased blooming Vanda tricolor var suavis. Needless to say that seeing an actual bloom just made this Vanda as one of my favorite orchids. I am truly amazed with the uniqueness of individual variety of this orchid from different areas.
Even on one plant, each flower is unique with different spot pattern. They are also very fragrance before mid afternoon. Seeing this orchid, one cannot resist the temptation to take a closer look and smell the pleasanant scent. I am looking forward to expand my collection with Vanda tricolor from different areas around Indonesia. Prior to purchasing this flowering Vandas I have acquired 5 blooming size of Vanda tricolor var suavis from Eastern part of Java and seedling of Vanda tricolor var alba. I can't wait when they all flower and enjoy the variations of this beauty. Please enjoy the many faces of Vanda tricolor from my orchid garden. :) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3641/...5c964b0c_m.jpg Vanda tricolor var suavis from Central Java. White background color with deep purple spots. Commonly found in the slope of Mt. Merbabu and Mt. Merapi. |
Below pictures are Vanda suavis from Bandung, West Java. Compared to other region in Indonesia, Vanda suavis and tricolor from West Java have a wide range of color variations but fewer flower count per inflorescence.

This one is Vanda tricolor with noticeably different labellum form than suavis variant. Also very fragrant before mid afternoon with scent of vanilla. Vanda tricolor is mostly found in mountainous region of West Java while Vanda suavis can also be found in Bali and Flores island. |
