Repotting a laelia...looking for advice

I have recently received a Laelia Tenebrosa Valpota's night in bloom. Now the bloom is over and this plant needs badly a repoting because the medium (bark)is old, compact and all covered with seaweed. the plant also need repotting as the last grow is too close to the border to let new roots growing inside the pot.
Usually I only repot cattleyas and laelias when new roots are growing but this time I wonder what will be best for this laelia : repotting now because of the very very poor medium or waiting for new roots.
What do you suggest?

OOOO, Louise, if you can repot it, I think that would be better than waiting for new roots. The plant may not put off new roots until it gets into a fresher media. Just my thoughts.

Can you post some pictures of the plant? That might help to see what the problem is. If the media smells earthy or just bad, it's time to get it into new bark or whatever it is that you find most successful with Laelias in your area.:goodluck:

P.S. - Vive le Tour!

Thanks Vanessa :)
that is what I thought and so I did it Saturday.
the old medium was incredibly compact and old but nothing rotten and the roots where ok.
I decided like you said that beeing in a new medium woul help to grow new roots. I put it in bark with a bit of charcoal and a very small part of sphagnum. I have other laelia (even another tenebrosa) in pure sphagnum it' can be a good medium for still young ones but for adults I usually put bark. I buy big pieces of bark that I cut to the size needed depending on the orchid I have to repot.
I hope that one will be happy in its new medium...It's resting now because of after bloom and repotting :)
