my little spider buddy
I saw my lil friend today, he's really good at hiding. By the time I got the camera he was gone. :( Anyway my lil buddy is a jumping spider that i caught last year. Usually I am the biggest aracniphobe youd ever meet( sometimes i use nerf guns to cap those dirty beasts off the walls and ceilings), but 1 lil jumping spider didnt scare me.
We have a great relationship! I make sure there are no other spiders in the house, eliminating the competition. And in return he eats every last thing that intends to harm my plants!:) I DO repot EVERYTHING that I bring into my house just as soon as I get it. Removing the dead roots but more importantly removing any bugs( usually none anyhow). I have ever only seen 1 mealy on a new plant I had gotten so Im not so sure what he eats, but Im going to attribute the fact that my orchids are (so far as my inspections have gone) bug free to the lil jumping spider! Perhaps one day I'll give him a name |
Awesome! I actually love my little spideys tho don't like the webs all over - but - then I see all the gnats and small mosquitos in the webs and guess I can llive with it a bit - I do occassionally get rid of webs when they are just too much for me to take - spideys make new ones anyway
I don't think I have seen a jumping spider - might not have those here You definitely should name your little buddy ;) |
Awesome! I despise all spiders other than jumping spiders. they dont make any webs( thou they always trail 1 behind them) so not much of anything to clean. and they are generally small(some species are larger but id kill them on purpose ahha) so they take out all the gnats and anything else.

Here's the coolest one I have ever seen and it is not small by any means. It was on my front door last year. This guy was about 3/4" http://www.cloudjungle.com/CloudJung...g%20Spider.jpg |
Thats a scary looking spider Harry!!!
I just like most of you just leave them alone when they are in the garden, but my wife is all about getting rid of them. Whenever I can I try to rescue them and put them down in the garden or at least outside! |
Hey Harry, dont get me wrong Im all for having tons of spiders in a greenhouse. despite me having an irrational fear of them, I understand that they can be an immense help. HOWEVER, I by no means will be putting up with massive or numerous spiders in my living room. besides, statistically, you're never more than 3 feet from a spider, for aracnids and insects are the most numerous animals on the planet. Ive excepted this fact, but am only willing to put up with my 1 lil friend here in my house.:)

definitely not one I would want in my house tho. I do re-locate the larger spiders from house to outside. Even when I 'didn't like' spiders I would catch them inside and relocate them to outside - knowing in my head they were beneficial and not really wanting to kill them - just didn't want them in my house! |
I catch spiders and mantis and relocate them to my my GH they do a lot of good in there !!
|
I would bring mantiss' into the house but there isnt enough food for them. LET ME STATE AGAIN>>> Im talking about my HOUSE! living room to be exact. NOT A GREENHOUSE! I would LOVE a greenhouse but I doubt I could afford to heat it over the winter. anyway thats why Im not a fan of a bunch of spider on my plants. Just the one.

Matt, Got it!
