Native orchids of Nevada

The driest and most mountainous state in the union has 14 native orchids. 1 grows in the "Nevada Triangle" portion of Death Valley National Park, and nowhere else.

There is good hunting on the Mount Rose Highway. I've found some at the pass, which is almost 9000'.

In reality though, the air is too dry. Robbed of moisture by the Sierras, much of Nevada looks just about the same as the photo.:(

It's beautiful, in its own way. It's amazing that orchids find a way to make it there anyway! Thanks for the cool link.
