Cattleya (unknown) with black spots on leaves
1 Attachment(s)
My first orchid, I got for 5 bucks because it was out of bloom. I have had it for 4 years now. It has never bloomed.
Finally it produced a nice big shoot, almost 5 inches, compared to 3 inches of the previous shoots. Unfortunately, it has black spots all over the leaves. From the begining it had these spots which were more purple when it first came up. Is this a bad sign? How can I get this thing to bloom. When do cattleyas typically bloom? right after they produce a new shoot? (its about 3 months old now). |
Are you misting the plant? If so, stop. Those look like fungal or bacterial infections, probably at the site of stomata, which can happen if the plant is damp, especially as the warm sunlight goes away.

No, not misting. but I do have a fungus gnat problem. Could it be viral? (I have a maxilaria tenuifolia that has similar spots, although they are tiny pin pricks, compared to the large spots on the cattleya).
