Mystery Orchid - Please help ID!

Hi everyone

I got this orchid as a tag-less freebie in a shipment with a Vanda from California, and I have no idea what it is... can you please help ID?

The plant is approx. 8-9 inches tall and the longest leaf is about 12 inches long. The plant has some red speckling on the stem, I used a flash in one pic to show it better. The plant has rather fleshy roots but from the leafes it looks like it rather wants more shade than vandas...

If anyone can help me put a name to this orphan (or at least tell me a general family name) I would much appreciate it. Thank you!!!

I may be completely totally off the mark, but that looks like a phrag to me. But I don't grow those nor vandas, so i'm likely wrong. There really was no ID whatsoever? Couldn't you contact the seller for some info of it?

Hi Camille, thank you for the guess. Actually I did ask the seller, never got an answer... which is why I'm posting here. I am not familiar with phrags, never grew one.

Anyone else ready to hazard a guess? Thank you!

ny wild guess; it,s either a Phrag or a Paph.if they are they require much less light then cats and more water.

To me it looks like a Paphiopedilum, and from looking at the leaves, probably something related to the subgenus with the same name, Paphiopedilum.

Thank you Snow and Anders! I will keep it in the shade then and wait and see what happens... Much appreciate your response!

If it's got hairy roots then I'd go with what everybody else is saying.
