White Egret Orchid in Australia?
Hi my mum has recently fallen in love with a pic of the white egret orchid in a UK magazine and is asking me to find her one. Is it possible to get them/grow them in Australia? Any special conditions? Thanks for your help.

G'day Eeycee.
Can't say I have ever heard of a 'White Egret' orchid. It is possible your mum may be referring to the Dendrobium crumenatum aka White Dove or White Pigeon orchid which is relatively common. A description or better still, a photo would help. Baz |

I also know the White Egret Orchid as Habenaria radiata. I wanted to get one, but don't have room for one outside, and anyways it gets too cold. I think that they're hardy to -5°C, and they like to grow in damp conditions.

I have never seen on of these before, but now I am quite intrigued and am diligently searching for one here in the states... Any suggestions?

I haven't come across Habenaria radiata in Australia. Burleigh Park lists flasks of a few of the tropical Habenaria as well as plants of Habenaria dentata (not radiata but similar if your not picky). Depending on where you live, you could contact one of the species societies to see if any of their members grow radiata.
