Thinking of Purchasing Indoor Greenhouse - Whats your opinions!

:hello:waving
Okay so I have about 8 orchids - not too many but enough that the table i was using is getting too crowded.
I have been looking for another piece of furniture that would be able to accomodate my babies and more babies in the future:D, but haven't found anything yet.

I went to walmart a few nights back and had a peak in the seasonal department and saw a grow rack. Its fairly inexpensive at $50.00 last year I swear they were $100 or more. I think it would be perfect and it would keep the humidity levels up as I live in an apartment and it is usually quite dry.

What does everyone think....worth it or just a waste of money? Any suggestions are welcome!!

My only concern about this sort of thing is that another layer of material between your plants and the outside world is another reduction in light levels - not good for some of them, especially in northern latitudes, particularly if you have double glazed windows already. I suppose you could uncover the side nearest to your window and then the rest of it would keep the humidity levels up.

It's certainly neat enough - will it hold your orchids when they spike? I tried something similar for houseplants and found they outgrew the shelving gaps fairly rapidly.

Just a few thoughts......

I use the exact same setup, with a 100w bulb lighting it. They are great and cheap, but need cleaning often (i find dust settles on it all the time)

The vinyl stitching on mine has ripped very badly at the bottom section, as the entire cover barely fits the frame. the bottom is just storage anyway, but it looks ugly as hell. After 4 years with it, I still use the dam thing, but its ugly, so I made a terrarium.

Whenever anything flowers, I generally have to remove it, as the plants are all squished together, and the blooms but up on the vinyl. Mind you, I do grow a lot of oncidiums, so really, I have no one to
blame for that but myself.

It looks good but what plants do you intend to put in it. Judging from the pic, the shelves are rather close together and don't look like they are adjustable. Will you have enough heigth?
