This is how I water my plants!

I was getting rather annoyed at the watering of my orchids because i put them in SH( always remember to NOT have the holes facing you when watering).
So i got a couple baking trays from a local restaurant, drilled a hole in the back of each one and attached a brass nipple to each tray. Next i attached some clear plastic hose to each tray and the hose now flows into a bucket. A layer or marble sized gravel keeps the pots up out of excess water and also helps provide humidity as the trays dont fully drain. :) its been working perfectly! best part is i spent less than $20 on the whole thing! Now when i water i just pour it in and let it flow out, when im done all I have to do is empty the bucket! |
Way to go dude!! Pretty cool system you got there Matt!!

Very cool!! How did you "get" a couple trays from a local restaurant?
|
Father in law actually works at that restaurant, so thats how i got them. i had a hard time finding the perfect size trays for my lil table at home depot and lowes. FYI I used Aluminum trays so i wouldnt have to worry about rust.

Very nice!
I see kitty inspecting the setup in the first pic. :) |
yup thats my cat Shiva. he is very protective of my orchids actually. never chews or messes with them and will attack any kids that get to close. it was an unexpected blessing:)

Very nice setup, Matt. I use something similar and it saves a lot of work, and it works well. Isn't it amazing how we can figure out such neat things to do with our orchid growing? Sometimes it is a challenge, but it's fun.

Oh, good boy Shiva! Cats can be so funny :) My kitty would be right in the middle of that setup as he likes to find "alternative sources" of water... apparently his water bowl is too boring.

:) I do have a very well behaved cat :)
