From the Illowa show

Well, I bought a Tolumnia Genting Sunshine yesterday at the show (posted about that in the Oncidium alliance area) and today I went back to the show for 3 things:
1. to attend the workshop about re-potting, so that when I need to repot, I know how 2. to try out my 200 mm lens and my macro extender tubes on my grandpa's camera 3. to get the species on the other orchid I saw yesterday that I wanted so bad. So I took some photos and attended the workshop, and stopped by the table to write down the species of the one I wanted. Gastrochilus fuscopunctatus. I went to write it down and the man selling it (Don White) said that he didn't know if I would be able to find it again, but he didn't want to take it home so he would take a couple more dollars off the price for me if I wanted it. Well... I really shouldn't have. But I did. I mean, it was so cute! Supposed to be "room temperature" tolerant, partial shade, and can be grown either in a terrarium or out of it depending on how fast water evaporates, so he suggested I try without first, which is what I'm doing. I'm also including a couple of photos of my Tolumnia just because I know you all want to see it! |
You made some really nice choices! I would of picked up the Gastrochilus too. :) It's really cute and the flowers are so pretty. Your tolumnia is beautiful! I love the colors.

Very nice, thank you!

Thanks!
So far my dorm is way too dry for it, so I've moved it into my mostly-finished terrarium. That doesn't really up the humidity much at the moment (I don't have a latch on the doors yet!), but enough that the moss doesn't dry out within an hour or two of watering it. When I get my order in from Andy's Orchids tomorrow, I might move this little one out to a position over one of my aquariums, because it needs a little bit more light than the others will. I should probably get that latch set up tonight, too! |
very nice! show us your set up after you finish:)

I love that little Gastrochilus, the plant and blooms are so cute! I don't think I would have passed it up either!
