Just couldn't help but blow my own horn

I have 3 vandacious orchids in bloom now. All from my basement, and I'm so proud of them.

Ascda Blue Tahourdin 'Bronze Grape', 16 small flowers

Ascda (V. 'Thananchai' X ascda. 'Tubtin Velvet') each time it blooms I get more flowers - 3, 5 and now 6.

Laura Bush (V.Fush's Delight X V. Roberts Delight') last year 5 flowers, this year 9 flowers and another bud which blasted. ( I didn't record the other bloomings)

2 others in low bud.

I'll post pictures later. My mini's want a drink.

Can't wait to see the pictures. What kind of set-up do you have in the basement?

This is how I grow my vandas. It is very hodge podge because I built it my self. It's a little difficult when one walks with a cane but it's still amazing what an old lady can do when she sets her mind on doing it.:biggrin:

You can see sets of 2 poles in each black tray. The black trays all have a hose on them and they drain into a rain barrel on the floor. It's under the white rack. The rain barrel has a garden hose running from the bottom which drains into my shower stall. On the bottom you can see some grey sheets which I pull up when I water, so I don't spray everything else. I water with a wand which I attached to the shower head. Hope no one wants to take a shower:rofl:

You may wonder why the green twist ties on the last rack of two. It is the last one I built and I couldn't get the pipes screwed together tightly. I'm waiting for a strong man to come to do it for me.

I have a 650 W HID light on a light mover above the plants. I want to paint the wall a white gloss enamel but I don't dare climb up on a step ladder to do it....It's a bummer getting old. I'm very independent but it's getting to the point where I can't do everything I want to do. It's possible I want to do more than I should. :yikes::poke: It's still better than a retirement home!!!!

OOPS! I forgot to mention the shower curtain hanging on the end wall. It to keep me from watering my wall.

Marilyn, Holy Cow...... :clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:

What a nice set up! I just saw the pictures of these Vandas on another thread. I wish some of mine would put some spikes up SOON....

Way to Go! Thank you for sharing.

Your set up is amazing Marilyn!! I love all your ideas to make watering easy and mess free. You're managing just fine with the orchids, cane or no cane! I wish my grandma could do a quarter of what you do, but the last few years have not been kind to her.

That is a really inventive setup. My hat is off to you. Isn't it amazing what we will do to our living areas in order to feed our addiction to these lovely plants?
