UHHHGGG!!!
I recently bought a Sle. jungle beaux at the Edmonton Orchid Show. It has seven pseudo bulbs and is growing a new one. The broblem is it is slowly drying up despite my misting and it living in a vase for now because it has no living roots! What should I do?

:(( First of all I would think that you might have Slc. Jungle Beau
The plant that you mention doesn't seam to exist . No roots :(, I would put the plant in a plastic bag with moist sphagnum moss and keep in bright light (no direct sunlight because you could cook your plant in the bag). The plant may take up to 3 months before roots start. If it is kept damp your plant should reward you with roots and flowers :). Jayme |
Sorry thats what it is (very tired at the moment). I have it and its pot in a vase with pebbles and water in the bottom. I was thinking of covering the top with a plate or something to keep it more humid. Would that work instead of a plastic bag? My mom doesn't like "ugly" things like plastic bags sitting around the house. Yes thats right I said my mom I am in grade 8.

Hi wgama and welcome to the orchid board. I don't see why that would not work. Are you able to see the root area? The entire plant needs to be exposed to light when in sphag and bag method. If your able to take a picture and post it we could give you better advice. Good Luck

yah you can see the root area and it has quite a bit of light it is on top of the computer desk 12 feet staight across from a huge picture window.

Yayy!?!!? It now has two little white nub things growign out of it one on the bottom of the new growth and one on the bottom of the oldest pseudo bulb! I hope these are roots!

the plant might not last that long it is starting to shrivel even in the jar to keep it humid :(

Is there any way I can make its roots grow faster?
|
Ok there was two little 1cm roots and 5 other ones that are starting so I potted it and held it up with metal pins after removing hte dead roots. I am thnking of trying s/h with this one! I already know how the pots work and to use some sort of LECA for potting medium but is there specific brand of nutrients that anybody reccomends?
