Cattleya labiata Lindl.

This is a seedling flowering for the first time. I was expecting it to be var. rubra because it is a selfing of C. labiata var. rubra 'Lou Menezes' but, unfortunately, though the lip is characteristic of rubras, the rest of the flower coloring is not (too light purple). Anyway, the flowers overall look is nice and the perfume fantastic!

A beauty. Looks like it didn't inherit enough copies of the rubra chromosomes,
Still a beauty.

Nice one (even if not rubra after all)

I'm curious about gaskelliana rubra. I'd like to see one. Do you have any photo of what is considered rubra in this species by any chance?

I don't have a picture in my computer, they are very dark with not so broad segments, but tecnically they arent rubras since the lip triangular spot don't cover the lateral lobes.

Gaskellianas are almost ever light to very light both segments and lip colors, but their is a small place on the western part of it narrow distribution area were gaskellianas almost ever have medium to big dark lip spots, and sometimes have above the average segment colors.

Thanks anyway, Jan Pahl!

My seeds are sown by a friend who runs a commercial lab. By our agreement the seedlings are shared between she and me to cover the costs and her share she sells out. But, her nursery does not export, unfortunately.
