Unknown scented Catt cross

G'day folks.

Another day, another noid. I swear I smelled this the first day it opened - as I do with all my new flowers - but it's only now, about two weeks later that I noticed something smelling very strongly in the orchid house.

It's so sweet! Maybe it only smells in the morning, possibly as it gets older. Very nice.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Aus.

Hi, Aus!

Beautiful orchid! I'm sorry, I can't be of any help, but I can share your pain - I have a NOID Catt. that looks VERY similar to yours and also had a really strong fragrance that I could smell as soon as I walked into the greenhouse. I'm hoping someone can help us identify our NOIDs!!! :hmm

Here are some pics of mine.

Hi Ethan.

It sure looks like we have parents in common, if not the whole cross. The lips look identical but my petals seem to be thinner. So far as I'm aware this could be either environment or one more dominant parent in one of our crosses. Does this sound right?

Mine had 4 flowers on the spike, not that this means too much.

And I sure wish we could post the smell of some of these plants - that might really help with an ID, and it'd be great to smell other people's plants ;-)

Cheers,
Aus.

Aus,

I agree, there are some differences. The petals as you mentioned are slightly different in shape, and the color is also slightly different. However, as you also mentioned, it's hard to tell if the differences are due to the cross or difference in environment.

Mine actually came from an elderly lady who is slowly getting rid of her collection. She gave it to me in bloom at Christmas and there were two blooms on the spike. She said it was the first time blooming for her after 7 years.

You're right - it's too bad we can't compare fragrances...it's such an added bonus when your orchid has a great smell!!

Hopefully someone will stumble across this thread and be able to help us!

Ethan, your plant looks like walkeriana hybrid. My guess is that it's possibly Lc. Secret Love.

Aus, I think yours look similar to Lc. Acker's Madison: Orchids By Hausermann, maybe it belongs to similar breeding lines....not sure.
Maybe...this Lc. Acker's Madison x Hknsa. Donovan Bennett: Orchids By Hausermann
Or ...this http://www.jewellorchids.com/2006Pics/1125bradford.jpg (POT Bradford Craig Lundberg (LC Acker’s Madison x Hausermann’s Treasure))

Hi, Vinh!

wow...mine looks almost identical to Lc. Secret Love. Thank you so much for the info and the links. It always amazes me that people on the board can come up with these matches....I was sure I would never have an id for this one, but this looks pretty darned close.

You're awesome, Vinh, thanks!!!:bowing

Aus, I agree with Vinh that yours looks closer to one of the photos in the links he posted. Although, they all look so similar....
