New Member, First Post, Best Time to Water Vandas in Cold Weather

Hi All:
This is my first post as I had a hard time figuring out how to post. Maybe there should be larger icon that says Post your thoughts rather than just new thread.
Anyway, I live in South Florida and I usually water my Vandas that are outside early in the morning. I read that when it gets cooler outside they should be watered at night. What should I do?
Thanks for the information.
Sharon

Hi Sharon! And welcome to Orchid Board. :)

I can't help you on when to water your outdoor Vandas since not only am I very new to Vandas, I can't grow them outside! Although I always heard that Vanda's like to by dry over night.

vanadas like coupious amounts of water. i soak my one vanda luzonica 30 minutes once a week in r.o. water. Plus mine have been outside wet from our local rains at night. I have never had any ill results from being wet at night

Welcome to OrchidBoard! Somewhere in the recesses of my gray matter, I remember that some orchids can rot if they stay wet at night and temperatures are cool. I believe Phals are susceptible, but I don't know if Vandas are.

Dear Mark:
That's what I thought too and then I read this about colder weather which was never specifically addressed in other books.
Thanks.
