my phalaenopsis is making roots! and a spike?
Hi I am new to this board. I have a phal which i have had for 2 years. I repotted on 12/20 bc the root were rotting i think. Today i noticed little nubs coming out and im really excited. In my excitement, I may have injured one of the little nubs, which is directly in the middle of the oldest leaf which means it might be a spike<?> I hope i didnt kill the little spike. Also, one of the new leafs is darker on the underside. I water it approx once a week, and have fertilized it maybe 4 times.
Here is when i repotted it Picasa Web Albums - r0nwilliams - Orchid Here is in its new pot http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink here are the new nubs!!!! http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink Here is the dark new leaf. Is it bad that this leaf is so dark on th underside? http://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo...eat=directlink Picasa Web Albums - r0nwilliams - Orchid Jan 09 |
If your phals makes pink/dark colored blooms, the purple leaf underside is normal. On my dark bloomed ones the new years tend to come out quite purple, and it fades over time. For a light colored bloomer it could be that the plant is getting the maximum amount of light that it can tolerate. Where are you growing it?
The nubbins at the base all look like roots to me,which is a very good thing for this plant. I think some of your picture links didn't work, since I didn't see a picture of a nub in the middle of a leaf. |
