Small sap bubbles on new growth of Cattleya
Hello and thanks for your time.
I have been noticing these very small bubbles on my new growth, they seem to be followed by black spots. Please let me know what further info is needed for diagnosis. the 3 pics are from different divisions of the same orchid I believe to be a cattleya. I can not get my pics to post yet, I need to figure out how to resize them, when I do I will post them. These sap like bubbles only appear on the new growth, and I do not see any bugs on or around my orchids. The photos are in my gallery, still racking my brain figuring how to make them into thumbnails. |
Hi there! The 'happy sap' as you described is common on new growths, buds, etc and is nothing to worry about. You may be getting black spots perhaps bc the sap is concentrating the sun on that spot and it may be burning...if you want, you could wipe off the sap with a wet rag, but most people just leave it alone. In truth, I'm always thrilled when I see sap because it means that energy is being directed to that particular growth and that it should continue growing well :) Hope that helps!

Thanks for the helpful response Becky, I was starting to get worried after seeing it occur more frequently.

Sure thing! and btw, that's great - that means your plants are actively metabolizing and growing!! That's a hard feat for some people in the winter :)

Hey Becky thanks for the encouraging words, I don't have them under natural light, I am currently using t5 fixture with 1 blue and 1 red bulb, so maybe thats helping a bit.
