Oncidium Wildcat Help
 

Hello,

I have recently acquired an Oncidium Wildcat. And I noticed that many of the leaves where somewhat yellowish. And I just figured it was from the shipping process and that it would recover. But I have been observing it, and it has been getting worse little by little. I am not sure what the problem is. I have not watered it yet, since the bottom of it was wrapped in plastic to keep it moist. I already know about the flower spike, I will take care of that. Any assistence rendered would be appreciated.

First thing I would do is check the roots. That's the first thing that comes to my mind. From the pics I can't tell if the bulbs are wrinkled or not. If they are, the plant is not getting enough moisture. Whether it's from lack of water or root rot, you won't know until you look.
Of course, it's possible that it may be due to something entirely different!

I agree with what Camille has said, have a look and keep us posted on what you find.

I saw the pictures and clicked some of them to see them larger. It seems to me that the largest bulb isn't wrinkled? When my Wildcat needs to be watered I notice slight shriveling of the largest bulb. After being watered it fills itself within a few hours. If that bulb isn't shriveled I would say it isn't a lack of water.

It's actually an odontocidium, and it likes it moderately bright, and prefers lots of water in a very open, airy medium.

Unless it got too cold in transit, i doubt that there is anything seriously wrong with the plant.

Well, it was in transit during the big freeze that happened in the northwest, and midwest. And I live in the midwest.

Well, I have been watching it. And it is not doing so well. It looks like the the bulbs are shriveling, but it is not that I have not been watering it. Any one have any ideas?

Have you seen the roots? How do they look like? A picture from the roots helps to diagnose. Shriveling from the bulbs means lack of water.
Bad roots (cold damage?) cause also lack of water, as with root rot occurs.
How do the leaves look like at this moment? How do they feel? What about a picture update from the plant?


Sorry to hear that the plant doesn't do well.

If the main bulb from my Wildcat is shriveling a bit it firms up within a few hours after being soaked.

BTW, I don't know where you got the plant from, but pictures might be helpfull if you contact the vendor.
