Den keiki or spike
I saw on someones post that they had a Den keiki and it was growing from the base of the plant. Whats the difference between a new spike and a keiki that grows from the base. Is there a difference?
|
Well a spike on a Dend usually comes out in between the leaves close to the top of the cane it has no roots.
A keiki will emerge at any point from a cane with roots of its own. If its closer to the base then is a new growth part of the mother plant. I hope I made some if any sense at all ;) |
Sorry I should have specified. By spike i meant cane, not flower spike. Oops :)
|
oh, ok, well then I guess, a new cane grows at the base and anything above it would be a keiki, meaning the roots are air born and they don't into the potting media
