Hey everyone,

I have a question about my phal. It looks kinda strange at the base of one of the leaves. I have attached a pic. Any ideas? Thanks!

Hard to tell because the pic is too small to see much of anything....

As BDoc said, it's kind of hard to tell. Can you post a larger picture?

Bospen 01-17-2009 12:23 PM

I'll have to take another pic on Sunday.

It's still hard to tell if there's any rot there or not. It looks like it could be a possibility. Otherwise, I've had some of the older leaves at the base split like that before. I don't think that's too unusual.

Yeah I've had leaves split at the base like that too. It's ususally not a sign of anything being wrong with the plant. Often the leaf bases split if a new root is growing through but sometimes not. As long as the roots are healthy I would'nt worry too much. If it were me Id probably pull the whole plant out of it's bark and take a good look at the roots just to make sure, but I'm bretty bold with my orchids.

Worst case, if it is something nasty like rot, you may want to sprinkle some cinnamon on it....not on the media 'cause this may harm the roots.

Thanks everyone. I can't take a better pic of it now, as I'm 4 hrs away from home. I'll take a better pic on Sunday. I'm just glad to hear that it's prob not something serious.
