Dendrobium chrysanthum

Beautiful orange Dendrobium with two dark blotches and fimbriation in the lip. It is a cane Dendrobium, but not of the deciduous type, or better, the flowers are born while the pseudo bulbs are still leafed, the leaves coming to fall only after the flower period.

Dendrobium chrysanthum. The color reminds me of some of my pansies.

Mauro - how do you grow yours? Mine is still in a pot and the latest cane is 4' long! I'm thinking a basket would be best for it but I am unsure of what size to use. Any insight into your growing culture and methods would be appreciated!

I've been growing mine in a clay pot with sphagnum, D&S Mabel. The pot is not large, 6" across. The longer cane I had was 5 feet long ( Dendrobium chrysanthum on Flickr - Photo Sharing!). From my experience, this Den, unlike many others, likes plenty of water the year round and that's why I use moss combined with clay pot.
A basked is a solution, but the size would depend on how large the plant is. When choosing my pots I generaly leave space for two or three new growths, which means, in general, two or three years for normal plants.
Hope this can help you. If you need anything else, let me know.

I like how they are all pointed downward. They look as if they should light up the area around them!
