Cattleya velutina - Lost species

This spotted beauty is not found in the wild anymore. Unfortunately, the species is lost and it is up to us, orchid lovers, to keep it for the next generations!

It's a beautiful flower and has that in it's favor so hopefully lots of orchid collections will have at least one plant in it. It would be a shame for it to disappear altogether.

Fantastic! Thank you for sharing!

Mauro, this species has a very bad reputation here in the states for being extremely difficult to grow, could you share the secrets of your culture?

WOW Mauro, such a beautiful plant and so sad is no longer in the wild, how can something so beautiful can cease to exist, but you are right is up to us orchid lovers to make sure they prevail the ages :D

Hi Chris, I'm writing a small article on that species culture, so wait just a little, OK?

Impossible not to stop and think, isn't it Priz? I am comfortably sitting here, in my home, where once was the habitat of this species... the original forest cover is gone to give place to the big city, the orchids with it.
