Melanophryniscus stelzneri

This is my male. He has called in the past, thats how I know his sex.

These guys are only centimeters long, 2 wide, lol. They are the cutest anurans I have, they walk don't jump/hop. Natives of the Pampas region, they are also called Pampas toads, or Bumblebee walking toads. I'll try to take a pic of the other one, which is probably a girl.

Where did you get him?? I haven't seen these guys in years!

Tindomul 01-09-2009 12:27 PM

I've had these for almost 4 years now. I got them from a breeder who I do not deal with any more.

I've been looking for these guys on and off for a while, though I haven't seen them available for about 5 years or so...hopefully more will pop up sooner or later. If by some means you happen to breed them, be sure to let me know!

Tindomul 01-09-2009 12:37 PM

I will be trying to breed. And yea I'll let you know.

That looks really cool. Is this a 'poison arrow frog?' Ive always want to keep some of these but was never allowed by my parents when I was younger. We actually have a population of Dendrobate azureus living wild on Oahu so I could collect my own if I was so inclined. What is you setup like? Any pics of the whole thing?

OMG! How cute! At first glance I didn't see anything!

Yea, they look like shadows, haha.

These are not of the family Dendrobatidae. They are however, mildly poisonous toads of South America. In my opinion, cuter. They are diurnal, so just as fun as darts are, but much smaller than a full grown D. auratus or D. azureus.
Here is a pic of the setup, which is a relatively humid terrestrial enclosure.

Looks fabulous!

Way to go, Tin!
