Vanda coerulea
 

After several unhappy experiences, :_( I learned that my humidity is too low for vanda. My enviroment is open and away from ground. Wind always belows the humidity away, so I desided to grow all the vanda in pots, and put them above a big shallow tank about 5 cm. This tank is filled with water and small clay balls (Sorry, I don't know the exact English name) to keep the humidity.:hmm
This time Vanda coelurea is in good bloom! The roots always show light green.:)

Beautiful, Edward! I really like the colors. How big is your plant? Also, just out of curiosity, what is the humidity level in your general growing area?

Fantastic job Edward. It sure is beautiful.
I doubt mine will ever bloom but the mere fact that I can keep one alive and growing is enough for me. (using the glass vase method)
Maybe it will surprise me somday!

Steve, not big, only about 40 cm. In the winter, day time is about 50%, night time is 75%. But the wind is a trouble. When the mansoon coming in April to May, this will change, I think all the vandas can grow very well at that time.

Al, I believe some day your vanda will grow many spikes for you, because it owes you too munch.

I have to admit that i am VERY lucky with the environment that i live in. All i do is water (and fertilize) my plants once a day and they just keep growing and blooming for me. There isn't really a lot of wind here, and what wind there is is kept away because of the shade house my plants are living in. I do have a big fish pond in the middle, and the ground is always damp and temp is never a problem.......Who am i to complain?

I do feel for others that have to spend sooo much time and money on living conditions though, it must be hard.

That's beautiful. I alywas love to see the blue ones.

I have one crazy question. I grow mine in my basement, under HPS lights. Mine are growing so large and I wander if it is as important to have a lot of lights on the roots. I seem to have grown a root jungle.

Marilyn...I'm not sure about an answer to your question, but if the roots look healthy and you're getting good blooms, I'd just keep doing what you're doing...in nature vanda roots are always hanging or clinging to trees below the main plant, where there is always less light. :D
