My Promenaea culture
 

Interest in the culture of these plants seems to indicated so I thought I would post this thread on the way I grow them, even though I have only three plants. would like more now.
The plants are growing in my Paph mix which is small grade composted bark ( 4 parts ) and scoria..volcanic rock ) 1 part. The plants are in 114mm dia x 90mm deep pots and sit on a tray of old orchid compost which includes some chopped sphag moss. They are kept in 70%shade at the coolest end of the greenhouse which ranges in temp' from 10c to 30c. I have a fan blowing air around constantly. They are watered and fertilized with every other plant.
I found that once the plants were established they can happily grow in oversized pots ( for size of plant ) quite happily. They dislike being disturbed or divided. Here are some pics of the plants in situ'.

I'm glad to see you're post and most happy to take that information in. It helps to take out some of the fear and encourages myself/others to jump into them and start growing them.

I have been wanting to try these proms for a long time now - couple of years, they're so beautiful to look at and seem to stay rather small compared to the other orchids I grow. I've decided about 2 weeks ago, I would finally jump in and try my hand at them :)

I do have a few questions - I'm wondering if they need any special cool down to help set spikes?
I also wanted to know how many times per year can they flower?
How long do the flowers last?
About the grow pace of them - Fast, slow, medium?

Gloria, because I don't hold a constant temp in the greenhouse, they are subject to a wide temp range all the time so I can't say it makes a difference.
Mine can flower twice a year but the norm is once.
The flowers last a week or 2. They can be slow on small plants but I think doing what I am now doing, they should grow fast as they are now. There seems to be a dormant period thru winter and the growths start in early spring and grow fast.

Roy has got it right,I have 15 of them and many divisions to a total of 30+, they don't like being wet late in the day so watering must be done in the morning as with most orchids,constant air mivement is a must and the odd spray with fungiside if any brown ing of leaf tips happens.

Prom. 'Chameleon' please help me..
 

Hey, I was wondering if you guys would be able to help me out.. I've been growing a Prom. 'Chameleon' and have had it for a few months without much issue and it seems to be going a little bit south now..I had gone on vacation and it didn't get water for 2 weeks :_( When I returned it surprisingly wasn't going too bad, but then it started having some brown spots, leaves turn yellow and fall off. I'm not sure whats going on with it, as now that I'm back, it has ample attention and moisture.
I've been growing it among my others, in a glass display case. I use T5's for lighting in there and also have 2 small fans for air movement. Temps stay from approx 70-80°F (night and day). I'm sad about this one. If any other background is needed to determine plz let me know. I can't think of much else..all my others are doing just fine.

I once heard something about Proms being deciduous, is that true or is that malarkey??Does it have some sort of fungi, rot, or disease issue?
please help if you can, I don't want my pretty lady to die. :bua:
