Phalaenopsis parishii

Purchased several months ago. It is mounted on a stick with small amount of spag. Kept in aquarium with 55 watt CFL, about 10 inches from light. My light meter shows about 100fc at that particular spot, lights on 13 hours.

Even though it is watered daily (dunked) and I have a fogger on for about 15 minutes in the evening, it's just not thriving. The leaves and roots are sllightly wrinkled and the overall color is just weird, light green, but almost looks grey:(

Are these particulary difficult? What am I doing wrong.

I don't know about your particular plant but wrinkled leaves is usually a sign of underwatering and light colored leaves is too much light.

I'd try cutting back on the light, which may in turn allow your watering/mistings to be absorbed by the plant rather than being heated away.

Let's see what our other members have to say :)

I think I'd go the other way on water, actually. I suspect you are over watering, which is compromising root function, which means no matter how often you water you will have floppy leaves...

Cut back on the watering by about 50% Turn off the mister if you can, or set it to go on every other day. You could probably use the mister as the sole water source.

It might be a bit too bright, too, but get the watering under control first.

My thoughts likewise Rob but what would cause the roots to look slightly wrinkled which one would think it's underwatered.

Hard to tell without a picture... It seems a little odd, but it also sounds like a whole lot more water than I'm comfortable with... I'm not going to be satisfied until that parishii has happy new root tips on it.

I'll try and post a picture when I get home later. I was thinking that would be best.

For what it's worth, my parishii stays fairly healthy with a water dunk twice a week, and the leaves have a natural gray "tint" to them. Perhaps too much water is the only problem.

I can't seem to upload a picture. Even with cropping it exceeds the size allowed. Using Adobe PhotoShop Elements. Any suggestions?
