Cattleya x mesquitae

Cattleya x mesquitae is a natural primary hybrid between C. nobilior and C. walkeriana. Good color and shape on this clone. The flower is large twoo. Very perfumed!

Mauro I agree with Cookiemonster

This is a beauty.

I see you wrote the name in small letter, so it means that this is really a natural hybrid, noy made by man?

Thanks

Yes. Cattleya x mesquitae is very common in nature. Along with C. dolosa, Cattleya duqueana and others, given time to time it is most likely going to become a new species (assuming the forest will still be there to shelter them!!).

So did you get this one from nature Mauro??

I don't think I could recongnize a C. x mesquitae if I have it in front of my eyes. Dolosa is easier.

One of my dreams is to see cattleyas in situ, any type. Specially intermedias!

Another question, can you tell me who are the parents of C. duqueana, I haven't heard of it. Have you got some picture?

Thanks Mauro!!

According to some reports, there are some areas in Goiás that don't have the parents anymore, only C. x mesquitae. Some clones are very difficult to tell apart from C. nobilior, but in general it is easier to separate from C. walkeriana. After awhile your eyes get trained and the thing becomes easier.
Seeing orchids in the wild is one of the most wonderful things for the orchid lover, I agree!
Cattleya x duqueana is a natural primary between Cattleya bicolor and Cattleya guttata.:)

Not to mention the flower size, Don (12cm across) and the lip (4,3cm across)! Ah...I was forgetting the fragrance...!

It's beautiful. Excellent photos, Mauro. I always enjoy the little "lesson" in your threads. I always learn something. :)
