Cattleya leopoldii 'Cotton Candy'
 

This is blooming out for the first time! A nice surprise this almost white lip - there's a very, very light pinkish band bordering the mid-lobe that remembers me of the pink cotton candy I loved when I was a kid!

Thanks, Fabrizio! It was quite a nice surprise this almost white lip. Completely unexpected. This one and another similar clone that started opening today are from a different sib cross.

That is one deluxe C leopoldii. It really brightens my evening - tomorrow it is forecast to be -40 with the wind chill.

Mauro, that's a great looking flower. Do you grow your leopoldiis with your guttatas, or does leopoldii, in your experience, like different growing conditions in regards to its temperature and light preferences? I have a couple of leopoldiis (in addition to a number of guttatas), and I can't really see much of a difference in the plants. They're all fairly young, however, so perhaps differences vegetative differences between the species will become more evident as they reach maturity. But until that happens I'll remain happy just looking at the pictures of your plants. They're beautiful.

Yes, it is not much easy to differentiate between the two when they are young (and actually neither when they are adult). The only characteristic that promptly points to C. leopoldii is the presence of three leaves atop the pseudo bulb. The problem is that only some clones present that characteristic. Well, at least, when you see three you know that it is C. leopoldi. For the rest both species are very similar:) .
