Is my orchid sick? I found a blotch...
Today during my daily deed of orchid doting (woah thats one unintentional mouthful) i found this blotch and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is.
This orchid is very sentimental to me and i hope she isnt sick ty http://i36.tinypic.com/mt509.jpg |
Evening Myst
I have a few Phals that 'blotch' as you call it. Those of mine which seem to this are the ones who's flowers' are deep voilet/purples/in the dark/deep red family. The discoloration on my plants appear on the underside of the leaves. My paphs do this as well.. but in a diff place on the leaves - usually near the crown. |
It appears to be just the result of good light. In plants with red/orange/purple flowers the pigments that produce these colors are in the plant as well and good light brings them out (something on the order of what happens when we get suntanned).

most of my Phals have purple colouring on their leaves and spikes, even my white one!
|
I don't think you need to worry...seems to be a slight sunburning reaction, your light on this one may be a touch too high but it's not really cause for concern
|
Looks like it's getting good light. Don't sweat.

I think is for the light too... is some kind of pigment...
or "SHE" needs another Orchid near... |

I also have a phal with similar reddish spots on the underside of her leaves. Her flowers are a really dark spotty purple and i think the spots on the leaves are an indicationn of good light and dark flowers. The spots show up as the leaves mature. She looks like shes doing fine to me Myst
