ID for miniature
 

A vendor from Bangkok, who is coming to visit one of the orchids nurseries I use to visit in Switzerland, send me some pictures of miniature plants he will bring with him. All of them but 3 were identified with latin names. I could identify 2 of the NOIDs (Dendrobium peguanum and Trichoglottis triflora), however, I could not identify this plant. I asked the vendor, but I only received what I suppose to be the chinese name (Chiang Xi Ging). Does anybody here knows this species?

Looks like a Sarcochillus.

It does look like a sarcochilus, but no clue which! It's drop dead gorgeous though! :faint:

Maybe a Sarco, but I doubt it. Most are white and a few are yellow or rose (like roseus) but not bright red. Could be a hybrid with Ceratocentron fesselii IOSPE PHOTOS (I have one in advanced spike that will bloom soon, so I can provide pics when that occurs. Most Sarcos are rupiculous and don't take all that well to sphagnum (is that what this is potted in?)

In any case, I would jump on that puppy, if I had the chance! I love the colors.

Ross, I also have Ceratocentron fesselii (not yet bloomed) but this does not looks similar to it... I think more something closer to Aerides or so.. but really, no clue!!!

I love the plant, and am seriously thinking of ordering it, but it's a bit (too) expensive for a NOID... a lovely NOID anyway :D

Ramon, I think it's a complex hybrid and maybe the grower can give you a clue. I'd still get it if it were me :evil: I'd probably mount it though.

You mean that the vendor really does not have a name for it other than Chiang Xi Ging ??? That's strange.

Not so strange, but definitely sounds like a hybrid to me. So ID will probably be difficult without the hybridizer's clues. I did an OrchidWiz search and didn't get any returns under that name (simply means it's a potential cross without being registered).

I would say Sarcochilus... plant habit looks right for a Sarco as well. Some of the more recent hybrids have got close to the overall red colour - its something they've been breeding for for quite a while now....
