Hi From Houston

:hello
Just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone. I have enjoyed reading the forum for a while now, and thought it was about time to join.

I recently started collecting orchids and have quite a few (I am a compulsive shopper when it comes to orchids). I need to learn how to take care of them. I keep them in the yard hanging on trees, or in trays placed on tables in various parts of the yard. I am scared about wintertime- I am afraid I will lose many if I do not pay close attention to the weather forecast and bring them in on cold nights.

We will see what happens. I have enjoyed looking at pictures of greenhouses and outside structures, hoping that I will have one one day.

Sarah

Hi Sarah...welcome! :waving

It's nice to meet you...and I had to laugh when you mentioned your compulsion when it comes to orchid buying...you are not alone!

Have fun posting around the forums...and post some photos when you can...we'd love to see your collection. :)

Take care

Dear Sarah,
Special welcome from a former Houstonian. We lived out on the northwest end of the city (out towards Katy) and loved it there. The Houston Orchid Society was, and I am sure still is, a great group of people and very active. When we were there the orchids I grew outdoors were brought under a covered porch in the winter and the open side of the porch was covered with plastic. Without heat that was enough to protect the plants except in the very coldest weather.
