Brassolaeliocattleya - Cattleya Netrasiri Beauty x Blc Varut Roongkamol
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...0/NETVARUT.jpg As you might predict, Netrasiri Beauty x Varut Roongkamol seedlings are quite variable, each one displaying genetic traits inherited randomly from the various ancestors. I have collected pictures of six others in bloom. They and this seventh one are all different in form and coloration, so I don't know what a definitive example should look like. From what I can observe, a generalized expectation would be for the flowers to have some combination of two or more colors from among green, yellow, pink, and purple occuring in varying parts of a variable flower and in varying intensities from one seedling to the next. Every description I have found of this hybrid and both its hybrid parents says that the flowers are fragrant. Mine has a so-so floral scent during the day. |
Mine is a faithful bloomer, 2 times a year and very very fragrant!!

Here's an update and some additional info:
This is what the flower looked like one day after opening. It was green when it first opened and then turned predominantly yellow. More pink began to appear the next day as some of the yellow faded to white. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...60/NETVAR1.jpg Fortunately, the fragrance became considerably stronger within two or three days after I first rated it as "so-so." To me, fragrance in an orchid flower is very important because it makes the flower appeal to two senses at the same time. By now, the second flower has also been open long enough to contribute even more to that. The scent is very nice and carries well into the air around the plant. Two more buds are forming in the top of the newest pseudobulb, but in this case, there is no sheath as there was when the first buds formed. The two flowers are facing in opposite directions. In an experimental effort to photograph both of them at the same time, I took this shot in front of the bathroom mirror. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v5...60/NETVAR3.jpg |
