My parents are hopeless with orchids, so they have given me all their plants.

After 3 years with me, one of them bloomed and I asked my mother where it came from. She tells me that my grandmother gave it to her 18 years previously in bloom, and it had never bloomed again.

It turns out to be a cym lowianum (sp?).

I'm thinking 'Pitts'?

I'm quite proud of myself!

such fantastic blooms too!

You should be proud! That's quite an acomplishment! It's very lovely, too.

My only issue is that it really needs repotting, there are two new growths - but the blooms will not die! I swear they look as good as new after two months.

Do I sacrifice the blooms to get the thing repotted at the right time?

Toshie,
What state do you live in. Have a lot of cymbidiums and wonder why so long to bloom?

I live in Melbourne, Australia. The poor thing spent about 15 years in Kynton, Victoria - outside through frosts and howling gales, and very little water. I'm surprised it survived.

My own cyms bloom every year.

You did an amazing job with it! :) I would be very proud to. Your mother must be very happy as well. As for repotting, I would be tempted to wait for the blooms to pass. After 18 years why not fully enjoy this wonderful blooming of it?

Can I send you my problem Cym? It hasn't bloomed since I got it 3 years ago, and believe me I've tried everything!
