New Masdies & Dens!

Hey there all...Just wanted to share my new acquisitions! This is undoubtedly my final purchase until decent weather in the spring, and my bf was not thrilled about it ("What?! More orchids?!") but I just couldn't resist taking a little advantage of a special that Parkside has on some Masdies. Got a couple of the Masdies and a couple Dendros I've had on my list for a while.

Masdevallia herradurae (7 blooms!)
Masdevallia (vargasii x triangularis) (one bud and another forming!)
Dendrobium aberrans (5 spikes!)
Dendrobium laevifolium

I'll post pics of the Masdie hybrid & D. aberrans when they bloom. Oh...and this is so cool...the herradurae is, to my nose, subtly fragrant. A nice soft floral fragrance. Lovely and unexpected!

I have to say, these are super-duper high quality, healthy, mutli-growth plants. And the packing was the absolute best I have every received. Huge two-thumbs-up for Parkside.

Very nice! Yvan, is that herradurae warm growing...? I'm contemplating an in-person visit to Parkside later in the month, and just might have to put it on the list. :blushing:

Yvan they're so cute and very healthy looking.

Stephen...herradurae seems to do ok on the upper end of "intermediate". Parkside says this about all of their Masdies:

"Our collection of Masdevallia species and hybrids is grown in our intermediate greenhouse. Winter temperatures range from 58 degrees at night to the mid 70s during the day. Summer temperatures can rise as high as the mid 80s."

They are a beautifully saturated jewel red color, perhaps like red wine. And I was really quite surprised they are really pleasantly fragrant.

Way to go, Yvan! :cheer:

Okay, definitely going on the list when I visit Parkside this month. Thanks for contributing to my depleted bank account. :_(

Absolutely love your choices there, Yvan. Those Dends are outstanding...love the mini's!

You say, no more for now. I'll check back with you next month.

Enjoy!

Ooh, I like that Masdevallia herradurae! Congrats!

Yvan, very nice choices! I love the Masd. herradurea - what a wonderful, rich colour! And not that many Masdies are fragrant, so what a bonus. Your Masdies hybrid looks like it is one of the ones that flowers again from old spikes - as long as they stay green, don't cut those off!
