Hello from a new orchid maniac!
Hi! I'm new to Orchid Board and fairly new to orchids. I've been growing for three years and only have a small collection of 7 little gems that I've picked up. I love to rescue neglected plants and nurse them back to health. The downside is that most of my orchids have yet to bloom, or haven't bloomed substantially yet. But it's great watching them bounce back from near death. I'll be asking a lot of questions, so I look forward to picking brains and letting people pick my brain once I've learned a bit more.

Hi Greenbean,
:waving Welcome to the OB! Rescuing sickly chids can be very rewarding...they do take time as you know, but it is worth it. I rescued a dying dendrobium from HD a few years back, and nurtured it to the point where I received a blue ribbon on it this year at my local Orchid Society meeting. A great payoff. Have fun with the OB...I look forward to seeing you around. :) |
Welcome from Massachusetts. I only joined about 3 weeks ago. You'll find the people quiteintelligent and extremely friendly.

Welcome!! I too am new around here but have found everyone to be friendly and smart. I also have orchids that have yet to bloom and the suspense is killing me!! Especially my cattleyas. They were all chosen for fragrance so it will be doubly nice when they finally do bloom. Again, welcome!!

Welcome to the board. 7 soon leads to a greenhouse, so be careful :)

Thanks for the welcomes. I've already found OB to be a great resource full of friendly people.
Hehehe. My home is already practically a greenhouse with all the non-orchid plants I have! Now I'm working on building my orchid and tillandsia collections. Even my dorm room is adorned with plants, including a few orchids from home. I just can't help myself.:blushing: Actually, my 7 have already lead to a greenhouse, but I don't think it's quite the way you meant, Ross ;) . I met an experienced orchid grower at the local Lowe's who had recently lost most of her collection to a greenhouse failure. She saw me looking at the orchids and ended up offering me a job helping her rebuild her collection in her greenhouse! I can hardly wait til I get home from college! Besides her offer to pay, there's always the possibility of a division or two! I'd also love to learn how to flask. Maybe when I get my Horticulture degree I'll end up with an orchid business. And the only "careful" I plan to be is choosing which orchid to get next! Hehehe. |
