Bulbophyllum rufilabrum

A fun little plant, and a tough survivor. This is another one that survived months of neglect in a dark dry apartment while I thought it was being cared for. I lost at least 80% of my plants to that, but this one looked like I never left, after one good soaking.

This picture is last year. The blooming leaf and pseudobulb grew entirely after moving the plant to growing under fluorescent lights. The plant was even partly shaded from the lights under some Tillandsia and random things growing around it. I wouldn't have noticed the flower at all, if I hadn't been so clumsy that I had to clean up a knocked over pot in there.

I didn't notice any fragrance, but didn't try very hard. Flowers this color too often smell like something very unpleasant!

I just recovered these plants a few days ago. I should make a list of the suvivors and what they went through. Shouldn't take long, it was so harsh that every last Tillandsia and most other plants with them are utterly dead, dead, dead.

Sorry to read of all you've lost. What a great little plant, I agree. Of all the ones you lost, I would think this would have been a definite goner. This throws everything I've read, everything I thought I knew about Bulbo's, out the window. I know some need to dry more than others but constant moisture was/is a must for these??? I just started growing these in early spring, this year and am now, after seeing your Bulbo, totally in the dark with these. The more I learn, the less I know but glad to have learned what I thought wasn't possible. Glad to have seen your post.

LOL Sandy... I was most surprised that ANYTHING was stilll alive. This one is already sending out new growth, like it had just gone into suspended animation for months and wasn't harmed at all.

There wasn't any stink in the flowers, I really didn't notice any scent at all.

Aerangis biloba is the third mounted mini that suffered no worse than losing a few leaves. it just started growth again too. Lepotes bicolor has died back but has a small part with a couple healthy roots and a few leaves. Phal. Mini Mark 'Holm', the only hybrid mini here, also survived nearly unscathed. There must have been just enough humidity in the air to prolong their misery for a very long time.
