What in the world is growing out of this Laelia?

Hi, folks...Simple question about what is emerging from the top of one of the newest growths on my Laelia mixta. Is this a second leaf growing? Some kind of spike action?
Thanks for the input!

Hmmmm....very different....I haven't seen anything like it, but I bet those who are more experienced then I have. Hope they can help!

Becca...yes, it's very odd looking to me...the only thing that it looks like to me is a-whole-nother pseudobulb growing out the top of it. Which, I'm pretty sure, it is not.

Strange....it looks like a new set of leaves?

Becca 10-24-2008 11:37 AM

I thought it looked like a new growth or new leaves. You'll have to keep us posted as time goes on and it grows more!

That is weird looking! :scratchhead:

I had a Catt that did the same thing , it always produced a leaf out of the sheath instead of a flower . After a few years I tossed it into the trash.

Ok, now so far, at least, I'm not the only one who thinks it's odd. It certainly looks like vegetative growth, but looks like it could be two leaves. Of course, there's already the one leaf on that pseudobulb. Perhaps it's a mutant "trifoliate"?

:( Hmm...I hope that's not going to be the case with her. Some of her growths are indeed bifoliate. She has 8 growths, 3 are bifoliate and 5 are unifoliate.

But this looks to you like it's leaf-growth from the sheath?
