Tip of vanda inflorescence blackened
Hi all,
I have this problem with my Vanda. First with my Vanda Limbata and second with my Vanda hybrid (forgot the full name). The tip gotten black and it failed to bloom to the maximum. :( It started when I moved this orchids out of my growing area (60 - 70% shade) to somewhere with 80 - 90% shade (under the palm leaves so it didn't get under the full afternoon sunlight). The leaves look fine, they didn't get burnt or something but the blackened tips are what bothers me the most. What did I do wrong? Could it be that Vanda inflorescence before completely bloom doesn't tolerate relatively high light? I haven't grow Vanda for very long. I grow dendrobium hybrids this way for a while and don't appear to bother the inflorescences. |
Some vandas just don't allow all the flowers on an inflorescence to open. Could be that it had too many flowers for the plant to care for while still maintain its growth, I have had a couple of mine do the same thing. Are these first time bloomers? Sometimes moving the plant can make it abort the remaining buds so I would recommend you don't move the plants until all of the flowers have opened to be sure they dont blast on you.

I just bought this flower from orchid nursery. The vanda hybrid has two spikes btw and only 6 - 7 flowers bloom just fine. Next time, I'll take your advice and wait until they all completely open before moving them around.
