Pets and orchids

I was just wondering how many of you mix pets and orchids. I have one cat "Truffle" and she does not eat my orchids, but loves to sit amongst them. Sometimes I will find one on its side but never any chew marks. Whats going on at your house with the pet situation? Horror stories? Good kitty? (doggies too, don't take offense.)

I have two cats and a dog, and only one of the cats has chewed plants before, and hasn't for a while. Both cats love to sit amongst them. The dog doesn't pay any attention.

my grow room is a pet free zone. no kitties. no puppies. they know the rules. i used to have a siamese that would break flower spikes off. i think she actually resented the time that i spent with the plants and not her. she would bit off a spike while i was watering and carry it around the hosue. i also have a ferret who likes to 'garden' and will do some random repotting for me. i once had someone ask me if orchids were toxic to cats. my response.......'im not that lucky!'

My cat, Mr. Bojangles, has shown very little interest in my 'chids. However, I also keep my growing area in a place difficult for him to get to. The only incident we've had: I moved one of my rupicolous Laelias very temporarily onto a windowsill which is easily accessible to Mr. B. I was getting ready to move Miss Fournieri back to the growing shelf, when Mr. B pulled the whole Laelia out of her pot! I was not happy. However, Miss Fournieri then went on to bloom only a few months after the incident! Just goes to show that orchids can put up with a lot.

So far three good pets and some not so good (Siamese are smart and I'm sure she did resent it) I cannot keep my cat away because I am in a motorhome with my orchids. Thank God she is a good girl or I'd be up the creek!

We have four feline critters of which 2 are Paph. leaf eaters,so all are banished from my chid room ater loosing 3Paphs and a couple of Phals. I took our spare bedroom added a screendoor .So now the chids are in a cat free zone.

aha! I knew it! Plant chewing kitties! My Julius (male of course) used to dine with gusto on ALL my houseplants. Seems like the dog is the good one here....hmmm....tearing plants out of the pot-did you at least spray him with water? Ferrets? Gads, they look like total trouble! Good to see my Julius isn't the only naughty one!!!

My cat Natasha loves to eat plants, especially flowers! She is banned from my plant room.

My Cat Eats Rats

My cat just eats mice and Rats:biggrin: So I have no problem with the critters in the shade house;)
