Important...all members...
Our good friend Dorothy will be taking some time off for personal reasons (please don't ask for details as I don't know anything) so I am asking that all of our members pay particular attention to any posts that are outright spam or inappropriate for our forums. If you see anything that you don't think belongs here, please contact me at cb977@orchidboard.com right away so I can deal with it.
I will be watching but without D here there's always a chance I'll miss something. I'm going to need your help :) Thanks in advance :bowing |
I hope you're speaking of those stupid post trying to sell IPODs, cell ph, etc., Nearly every week I see them. As I saw three of them this morning! I 'reported' all 3 of them, where ever they go to?
But anyways, thanks for helping us all out here Susanne! I hope Dorothy is going to be Ok! |

I received notice this morning of the three you found and those posts have been deleted and the "member" permanently banned. Keep in mind that most spam is done electronically and sending them a reply accomplishes nothing...all anybody needs to do is report the post and it will be dealt with. Thank you Jackie :) |
Sure thing Susanne, you can count on us to keep an eye out for suspicious forum posts.
Dorothy, i hope everything is ok with you :D |
10-4 good buddy! I'll keep my eyes peeled for them spammers!
|
I hope Dorothy won't be away for too long, I miss her already! I think with everyone keeping an eye on the forum, things should be just fine.
The spammers never last long anyway. A few weeks ago I banned 2 in one morning. I suspect it was the same one trying again, the ads were the same I think. Sue, when members ban someone for spamming, it automatically gets reported to you, or do we still have to PM/message you? |

I was looking at the classified Ad last night and found one who left a comment selling bicycles good ones too! I notified Sue and poof it was gone!! You could find them anywhere:shock:
Best wishes D. |
When a member reports a post, the mods and admins are automatically notified. We then go into the system and delete all that spammer's threads and permanently ban them.
When a member issues an infraction against a spammer, we are notified and follow through the same way...but that infraction bans that spammer for one day. The mods then change that one day to permanent status. Ross, a minimum post requirement won't do anything if a spammer wants to put an ad in the forums...the system would just read it as a normal post...and most spammers are electronic buggers, not really people :) The mods here try to keep up with them and get rid of anything unwanted as quickly as possible. Dorothy, Tindo and myself had a pretty good system going, catching anything one of the others might have missed. Tindo is a very busy guy and doesn't really have lots of time to spend moderating here and with Dorothy now having her own stuff to deal with...that leaves me. Which is why I posted this thread and ask for all of our members to notify me when they see something. I will continue doing what I've always done but I need you guys (and gals) to catch anything that might slip through the cracks and notify me about it. Thanks to all of you...OB is the best and we're going to keep it that way :cheer: |
