Lots of people told me it would be really tough to grow vandas here in Ontario. But here are my Asctm. Lilac Blossom, and my Ascda. Princess Mikasa happy and healthy  Got them both in spike waaaay back in February, and now they are blooming again. :cheer: :cheer:

I also threw in a picture of my Psychopsis Mendenhall ..... this guy is ALWAYS in bloom:rofl: soon as the flower falls off, a new bud is there to take its place.

Great job, Niki. Now you already know the next question: what are your cultural techniques?

Honestly? All I do is hang them in the kitchen and soak them for 20 - 30 minutes every other day in weak fertilizer water. I did also put them outside for the summer, which... if the root explosion they had was any indication, they REALLY liked.

edit: Oh, and my kitchen window faces west ;)

Winows? Lights? Grandma M grows hers in basement here in Michigan and I suspected you might have a secret or two.

:canuck: Two thumbs up. Way to grow. I too am experimenting here in the West. Hope I can join the "can grow" club like you

Lecent

You'll do great Lecent! Just don't get too discouraged if you lose a couple along the way..... it's all just a learning experience until you get it right

They are all so beautiful! How exciting!!

Niki

Isn't it fun when after you have been told, 'you can grow vandas inside, but they won't bloom', to see them burst into bloom? I'm always so thrilled to see buds forming.

Mine never get outside. I walk with the help of a cane.......can you imagine me carrying about 30 vandas up a flight of stairs and out to my deck? Marilyn

shams 10-12-2008 01:13 PM

lol Marliyn, I can't even begin to try... but I know you've surprised a lot of people regardless with your homemade set up! I wouldn't put anything past you!
