Vanda javieriae culture

Any body has Vanda javieriae?? I have a seedling and it's getting close to flowering size, 12" LS and 7" tall and just wondering if it need any special care. According to my research, javieriae is a low light vanda and can bloom under Phalaenopsis condition, which i doubt it. I think the plant has another year or so to grow and just wondering should i start increasing the light to maximum as recommened for most vanda.

Vanda javierae, together with its close relative V. roeblingiana, is unusual in the genus because it comes from rather high elevations for the genus. Vanda javierae comes from around 1200 m and V. roeblingiana comes from around 1600 m. While not cool growing, they will not tolerate longterm warm temperatures like other species. This shouldn't cause a problem in Canada but both species are hard to keep going in South Florida because of the lack of day/night fluctuations all summer long.

Other than avoiding hot temperatures it grows like any other Vanda.

Hope that helps, Eric

I have two javierae seedlings, one small one large and they both seem to appreciate quite a bit of shade. I am growing them in a more shaded position than most of my Vandas are they are doing well. I would give them a litte less light than other Vandas for them to grow there best.

my climate is similar to southern florida. I don't seem to have a problem with roeblingiana either. I just found a nice cool shady spot outside and they seem to be doing fine. Roeblingiana likes the most of shade of any Vanda. Its amazing how adaptible orchids can be if you find the right spot in your garden.
