Not so stubborn C. warscewiczii (gigas)
 

Some of you know the story....8 months of waiting for my division of C. warscewiczii to show signs of growth. Finally roots started to sprout after an extended stay in a covered seed tray with sphagnum moss. I potted it up S/H and it completed a new growth, although smaller than the previous Ecuador grown pseudobulbs.

The good news is that it now has another new growth!:banana: Check out the right side of the plant. Previous growth is on the left

Dave, are you as disappointed as I am with what you've received from Ecuagenera? It looks impressive when you unwrap the packages and see all the roots but then upon closer inspection there are hardly any viable ones? My order from last year is as slow to recover as your gigas, and this years looks no better.

You've done well with it! Now you have two leads...I'm impressed. Way to go!

I placed a pre order for a Cattleya violacea with Ecuagenera this past summer and even after they confirmed the order it was still forgotten. They have forgotten plants in previous orders as well but i was so looking forward to getting a violacea.:( There were also a number of unhappy peple picking up pre orders. A lot of stuff was in really bad shape or missing. I really hope they improve their customer service as they have so many nice plants that it would be a shame if people stopped ordering from them.

I concur. This is what I 'pre-orderd' and I received the dowiana and schroederae only.

2 each Cattleya dowiana
1 each Cattleya jenmanii
1 each Cattleya loddigesii
1 each Cattleya schroederae
1 each Laelia harpophylla
1 each Phragmipedium fisheri x besseae

One of the dowiana's is showing growth potted in S/H, the other one is RIP. I also picked up a C. maxima Coronita, another gigas and Phrag wallisii x besseae.They looked good until I opened them. Most of the roots were dry and dead, except for the Phrag - it seems OK. I think we all expect to have some dead roots given the bare root shipping, but not to the extent these plants have.

Seems to me like the plants were way too long in transit, imagine what the plants will be like by the Calgary and other meetings! Anyway I am going to follow up with an email to Ivan Portilla this week.

Boy am I happy that others have trouble with plants from Ecuagenera. I thought it was me. I've had two orders from them and don't think I'll be ordering again. I can't afford to have plants sit in my greenhouse for a year or two before they are saleable which I definately have to do with my Cyrtochilum (odontoglossum) Edwardii. At the Vancouver show in April I purchased an Odontoglossum Crispum from the Brazilian vendor,:cheer: :cheer: :biggrin: I forget the name. It was in spike which I cut off right away and then the plant went down hill from there. I was in complete despair when the psuedobulb went squishy but tucked it into a corner and ignored it all summer and lo and behold the little begger has a new tiny growth sprouting.... Yeah!!!

Hey Dave, just sent off an email to ecuagenera about the quality of the plants I got in October and Magali was quick to reply with an apology and an offer to replace the plants I've lost (none yet but C. Iricolor doesn't look promising) upon their next visit to Canada. Thats gotta count for something.

I too would like an update on the status of your C. warscewiczii, if you wouldn't mind.
